Course Description

Program Description Humber’s Broadcasting – Radio diploma program prepares you for the performing, creative, technical and business elements of radio and the audio world, including podcasting. You’ll learn about radio station operations, broadcast equipment and the fundamentals of gathering, writing, producing and delivering content for all genres of radio – including the digital and mobile space. On the business side, you’ll gain in-demand skills in content producing, station management, sales, marketing, news, programming and market research. Students in our program contribute to the content on 96.9 FM Radio Humber - a fully licensed campus and community radio station regulated by the Canadian Radio-Television Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). Our signal transmits in the GTA – and our station can also be heard online around the world via radio.humber.ca. Your radio broadcasting education will include the exclusive opportunity to contribute to Radio Humber by creating original content in our digital studios and bringing it to life for our listeners. Radio work placement opportunities are available at radio stations across Canada following your fourth semester (160-hour placement). We will assist you in finding placements at stations in your areas of interest, providing you with valuable experience and industry contacts. Our placement partners include 680 News, Talk Radio AM 640, KiSS 92.5, Sportsnet 590 The FAN, 102.1 The Edge, Z103.5 FM and CBC Radio, among others. Turn up the volume on your future with a radio broadcasting education from Humber. Radio and podcasting are thriving fields, with hundreds of radio stations across Ontario and thousands more across Canada, the U.S. and the digital and satellite space. With your diploma, you’ll have what it takes to succeed behind the microphone. Our graduates work as music and talk show hosts, news and sports anchors and reporters, audio and content producers, sales and marketing representatives, and music and program directors at stations across Canada including prominent Toronto stations such as KiSS 92.5, CHUM FM, Sportsnet 590 The FAN, Indie 88.1, 102.1 the Edge, Newstalk 1010, 680News and CBC Radio. Follow in the footsteps of media personality George Stroumboulopoulos and hundreds of other Humber radio alumni who are household names in their communities and across Canada. Note: If a student applies for conditional acceptance but later decides to take their IELTS/TOEFL, they will need to reapply and submit a new application.
